Does your school offer breakfast and lunch?
We operate an excellent nutrition program. Our cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch every school day for a reasonable price. We also participate in the federal free and reduced price lunch program for those who qualify. For more information or to apply for free/reduced meals, please see our district Food Services page.
What if my child requires medication during the school day?
We believe medicines are best given at home; however, we will administer medication in accordance with state regulations and with physician and parental approval. Please complete our medication authorization form (you can pick one up in our front office) and bring medications in the original, labeled packaging to the front office.
Do you provide transportation services?
We are pleased to provide our students with safe, reliable transportation to and from school each day. We consider bus riding a privilege and expect all students to adhere to the rules for their own safety as well as for the safety of others. For information on bus policies, schedules, and routes, please visit our district Transportation page.
What is Skyward and how do I get a username and password to use it?
Skyward is just another way we keep communication between home and school strong. It provides you with almost real-time access to your child’s grades, attendance history, and other important information. To receive your log-in information, please call the front office.
What are the school hours?
Arrival: 7:45–7:55 a.m.
Tardy Bell: 8:00 a.m.
Dismissal: 3:00 p.m.
After School Program: 3:10–5:00 p.m.
What do I need to do if my child will be absent from school?
If your child must miss school, please call the school office on the day of his/her absence. For information about attendance requirements and what qualifies as an excused absence, please refer to our student handbook.
Do you enforce a dress code at GMS?
We expect our students to dress in an appropriate manner at all times. Student dress may not present a health or a safety hazard, violate municipal, county, or state law, or present a potential disruption of the educational process. Generally, we do not allow:
- any short or skirt shorter than mid-thigh;
- any sagging pant or short with holes above mid-thigh;
- hats or hoods to be worn indoors unless on a school-approved spirit day;
- clothing sporting vulgar messages, alcohol, drug and /or tobacco products, and weapons;
- any see-through shirts or shirts that show undergarments or the armpits;
- pajamas or slippers unless on a school-approved spirit day;
- coats or backpacks in the classroom; or
- body chains or chains hanging from clothing, necklaces with spikes, or other jewelry that may be deemed a weapon.
What is the cell phone policy at Grant?
We encourage students to keep all personal electronic devices at home, including cell phones. We are not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of any personal electronic device. Cell phones must be turned off during the school day. No unauthorized pictures may be taken with any personal electronic device.
