Fine Arts

Participating in fine arts classes and activities helps students grow academically and fosters an appreciation for the arts that they will carry with them into adulthood. At Grant, we are proud to offer a variety of opportunities for our students to explore artistic endeavors.

Grant students have the opportunity to participate in art classes each week. These classes focus on the creation and appreciation of art from a variety of cultures and time periods.

Through art, students learn creative skills in painting, drawing, sculpting, collage, and multimedia projects while engaging in self-expression and respectful critique. We display all completed art projects within the school for a period of time before sending them home. Students may also opt to participate in our annual art show.

Our award-winning band department offers a variety of instrumental instruction for sixth through eighth graders.

6th Grade Band
We begin with the basic orchestral instruments (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion) to learn how to read and perform music. Students will become proficient in three major scales.

7th Grade Band
Our intermediate-level band continues where sixth-grade band left off. Students learn to sight read, play in ensembles, and compose music while working in five major scales. We may also begin learning about minor and chromatic scales.

8th Grade Band
In this class, students refine sight reading techniques, play in orchestral ensembles, compose music, and learn chromatic and minor scales and essential performance techniques.

Choir students learn the fundamentals of choral singing including basic vocal techniques, part and ensemble singing, sight-singing, and performance. We perform at least twice a year and participate in music festivals and competitions each spring.
